Feed Energy welcomes Dr. Eric van Heugten for an exclusive FREE webinar on August 7th at 10 a.m. CST.  REGISTER TODAY!

In this hour long webinar Dr. Eric van Heugten, Swine Nutrition Specialist, North Carolina State University, will share a comprehensive review of recent studies showing the benefits of dietary lipid supplementation in the prolific and high-producing modern lactating sow. This review shows that supplemental lipids improve caloric intake of lactating sows, which improves milk fat output and litter growth rate. Most importantly, lipids rich in specific essential fatty acids (EFA) resulted in an improvement in return to estrus after weaning, maintenance of subsequent pregnancy and subsequent litter size. Dr. van Heugten will share how supplemental EFA during lactation corrects a negative EFA balance and improves the fertility of the modern sow; a phenomenon that seems to be increasingly important with advancing sow age.

Dr. van Heugten will discuss how feeding programs for the modern lactating sow should be designed to provide a minimum dietary intake of 10 g/d of α-linolenic acid, simultaneous with a minimum of 125 g/d of linoleic acid provided to > 95 % of the sows; thereby, achieving a maximum sow reproductive efficiency through multiple mechanisms that include rapid return to estrus, high maintenance of pregnancy and large subsequent litter size.

This will truly be an invaluable source of information for nutritionists, feed mill operations and managers responsible for sow operations.

We hope you can join us on Wednesday, August 7th at 10:00am CST.
